Reduced Relative Clause เทคนิคการลดรูปที่คนทำข่าวใช้เป็นประจำ
เวลาอ่านข่าวภาษาอังกฤษ เรามักไม่เห็น who, which, that เพราะผู้เขียนนิยมลดรูป Relative Clause เพื่อให้ประโยคสั้น กระชับ และอ่านลื่น
1. Active Voice
Relative Pronoun + Verb → V-ing
ตัด who/which/that แล้วเปลี่ยนกริยาใน Relative Clause เป็น
ตัด who/which/that แล้วเปลี่ยนกริยาใน Relative Clause เป็น
V-ingThe protesters who demand higher wages blocked the main street.
ผู้ประท้วงที่เรียกร้องค่าแรงที่สูงขึ้นได้ปิดกั้นถนนสายหลัก
↓
The protesters demanding higher wages blocked the main street.
ผู้ประท้วงที่เรียกร้องค่าแรงที่สูงขึ้นได้ปิดกั้นถนนสายหลัก
Students who are studying abroad receive financial support.
นักศึกษาที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ต่างประเทศได้รับการสนับสนุนทางการเงิน

2. Passive Voice
Relative Pronoun + be + V3 → V3
The suspect who was arrested last night has confessed to the crime.
ผู้ต้องสงสัยที่ถูกจับกุมเมื่อคืนที่ผ่านมาได้รับสารภาพในคดีแล้ว
↓
The suspect arrested last night has confessed to the crime.
ผู้ต้องสงสัยที่ถูกจับกุมเมื่อคืนที่ผ่านมาได้รับสารภาพในคดีแล้ว
3. Adjective
Relative Pronoun + be + Adjective → Adjective
People who are eligible for the financial aid must register online.
ผู้ที่มีคุณสมบัติตามเกณฑ์ต้องลงทะเบียนออนไลน์
↓
People eligible for the financial aid must register online.
ผู้ที่มีคุณสมบัติตามเกณฑ์ต้องลงทะเบียนออนไลน์
💡 มุมมองของแอดมิน
เมื่อเห็น V-ing, V3 หรือ Adjective ตามหลังคำนาม อย่าเพิ่งคิดว่าเป็นกริยาหลักของประโยค เพราะอาจเป็น Reduced Relative Clause ที่ขยายคำนามอยู่
