Police detain late-night protesters at Democracy Monument

Thai police detained protesters early on Monday at Democracy Monument in Bangkok for violating the country’s emergency decree by organizing a march against the current government.
ตำรวจไทยควบคุมตัวผู้ประท้วงในช่วงเช้าของวันจันทร์ที่อนุสาวรีย์ประชาธิปไตยในกรุงเทพฯเนื่องจากฝ่าฝืนพระราชกำหนดประเทศโดยจัดการเดินขบวนต่อต้านรัฐบาลปัจจุบัน
The protesters had organized a march from Ratchaburi Province to Bangkok which started on Sunday evening and arrived in Bangkok just past midnight on Monday.
ผู้ประท้วงได้จัดให้มีการเดินขบวนจากจังหวัดราชบุรีไปยังกรุงเทพฯซึ่งเริ่มตั้งแต่เย็นวันอาทิตย์และเดินทางถึงกรุงเทพฯในเวลาเที่ยงคืนของวันจันทร์
The organizers say they would camp out in front of government house to demand that the Prayut Chan-ocha government leave office.

The protesters were met by police upon arrival in Bangkok who accussed the protesters of violating the standing emergency decree which had been put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

An officer at Chana Songkram police station told Thai Enquirer that officers acted responsibly and according to the law to apprehend the demonstrators.

Escalating Tension

This is not the first protest in Bangkok that have been quickly and harshly repressed by Thai police.

Protests early in January at Victory Monument and in downtown Bangkok were also quickly broken up by security forces citing the emergency decree.
