ฉันเขียนเรียงความเสร็จแทบไม่ทัน (เพิ่งเสร็จทันเวลา)

- We got there in time for our flight, but only just.
เรามาถึงที่นั่นในเวลาที่เที่ยวบินของเรา แต่แทบไม่ทัน

- The film’s only just started, so you haven’t missed much.
ภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้เพิ่งเริ่มฉายเมื่อกี๊ ดังนั้นคุณจึงพลาดไม่มาก

- I swerved to avoid the other car and only just missed a tree.

♥ ใช้ในลักษณะเปรียบเทียบ
only yesterday = เมื่อวานนี้เท่านั้นเอง

นานกว่าหนึ่งปีแล้วที่เราเจอกัน แต่ดูเหมือนว่าเป็นเพี่ยงแค่เมื่อวานนี้เท่านั้นเอง

♥ only if = เพียงแต่ว่า..เท่านั้น/ก็ต่อเมื่อ...เท่านั้น/ ถ้า... เท่านั้น

- I’ll tell you, but only if you don’t tell anyone else.
ฉันจะบอกคุณ ถ้าคุณไม่บอกใครเท่านั้น
ฉันจะบอกคุณ เพียงแต่ว่าคุณอย่าบอกใครเท่านั้น

- He says he'll come, but only if you promise not to tease him.
เขาบอกว่าเขาจะมา ถ้าคุณสัญญาว่าจะไม่ล้อเลียนเขาเท่านั้น

- Americans only take off their shoes when they’re told to do so.

♥ not only…, but (also)... = ไม่เพียง … แต่ยัง /ไม่เพียงแค่…..แต่ยัง….(อีกด้วย)

- Not only his son, but his daughter is famous as well.
ไม่ใช่แค่ลูกชายของเขาเท่านั้น แต่ลูกสาวของเขาก็มีชื่อเสียงอีกด้วย

- We were not only tired, but also homesick. I miss my own bed.
เราไม่เพียงเหนื่อย แต่ฉันยังคิดถึงบ้าน คิดถึงเตียงนอนของตัวเอง

- Yet spoiled food not only creates health risks but also economic losses.
